about

After years of Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band gracing stages around Leeds that aren’t quite big enough, they finally got into a studio, not quite big enough, on the 23rd and 24th of February 22’, to record over 25 pieces of music: A wild variety of Ferg’s originals, Beatles tunes, free improvisations, spoken word, sung songs, cover songs, card game songs, made up in a morning songs, outro songs…

The problem is you can only fit so many songs on a piece of 12” Vinyl. After much deliberation Ferg and the Imagineers whittled 25 down to 9. The selected 9 are a snapshot of the varied and ever changing songbook of the band.

The music itself is born out of a fertile period of composition where Ferg was writing at very least a tune a day, many of which made their way into The Big Band’s book in time for those two cosmic days. That recording session is the only time and place some of these arrangements will be played, and as such serves as a high definition snapshot of the band at that time.

Written, recorded, mixed and mastered in Leeds, pressed in Middlesbrough… Untouched by the South, this record will surely join the long history of weird and excellent music churned out by the cultural Northern Powerhouse, set to take the Nation’s Jazz lovers by storm.

The band hope for this to be the first of many records to come featuring many more musicians and tunes, both real and imaginary...
